The Camborne Youth Band has established itself as one of the best youth brass bands in the UK, performing concerts and competing in contest across Cornwall and beyond. Although in existence for many years, the band was at a low ebb when Alan Pope became Musical Director in 1999. His enthusiasm and commitment to encouraging and teaching young people has since ensured that the Camborne Youth organisation has gone from strength to strength.
Between 2004 and 2011, Alan led the band to an incredible seven wins at the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britian. They have also been crowned champions of Cornwall, the South West, Greater Gwent, and the West of England Bandmen's Festival at Bugle. Both Camborne Junior Contesting and Camborne Brass Bands have also celebrated success, winning the West of England Championship in the Fourth, Third and Second sections, as well as competing in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
During recent years, the young musicians have also been fortunate to work with some of the finest brass band musicians in the world. These have included Brett Baker, Simone Rebello, Owen Farr, Les Neish and their current Musical Advisors, Alan Morrison and David Childs.
Young, current or aspiring, brass and percussion players are always welcome to join the organisation, having the opportunity to learn and perform in a range of ensembles: the Training Bands, Camborne Junior Contesting, Camborne Youth, and Camborne Brass.
